The Toronto Maple Leafs are some of the most storied franchises in the entire NHL. And as one of the “Original Six” teams, also, they are one of the longest standing teams. The team has won the second most Stanley Cups of any team in NHL history, with 13. The sole team with increased is fittingly enough their bitter rival, the Ottawa Senators Jersey. Despite being extremely well supported, with plenty money at their disposal, the Maple Leafs have struggled in recent years, struggling to rekindle their past glories.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were originally the Toronto Arenas, owned by the Arena Company. They came into existence right after the league that preceded the NHL, the National Hockey Association, disbanded due to a disagreement with the pushy owner of the Toronto Blueshirts organization of this league. In the new NHL, the Toronto Arenas soon was a team since the league decided there could be no NHL without a franchise in Toronto. How right these were with that! The Arenas however were short lived. Under new ownership the team was renamed since the Toronto St. Patricks, and actually had green his or her main jersey color.

It had been not until 1927 the Toronto Maple Leafs, or officially, the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club, came into existence as you may know them today. With all the classic blue and white jerseys, the team had feelings of dignity and respect right away, that would be justified by handfuls of championships to adhere to.

The team was really named after having a World War I regiment referred to as Maple Leaf Regiment. There is another baseball team in Toronto entitled the Toronto Maple Leafs for a while before the hockey team was called such. Considering that the name in the regiment, Maple Leaf, is actually a proper noun, the phrase Leaf fails to change to its normal plural of Leaves, hence the spelling, Toronto Maple Leafs.

If the Golden Many years of the Maple Leafs are recalled, people are usually referring to the 1940s, once the Leafs won five Stanley Cups. The team also won four inside the 1960s, marking 10 years where their archrival the Montreal Canadiens also won four championships. Actually, the Air Canada Centre was really originally designed mainly for basketball, until MLSE purchased both Raptors and the new stadium in progress, along the way finding a new house for the Leafs.
